The original July 2007 document (undated and unattributed) was apparently printed out by someone in the Department of Public Works. [The pencil notations are my notes when I was reviewing the information to analyze it.]
I had requested information about property maintenance complaints filed, inspections conducted, violations found, citations issued, and fines collected during the preceding six month period. The response spreadsheet did not contain any information about fines collected.
At the time, the entire list could be summarized:
184 citations to remove trash, debris, furniture, appliances, auto parts and other junk around property, or failure to remove such junk; 107 citations for unregistered vehicles; 104 Citations to cut grass, remove natural growth, leaves, dead trees and limbs; 101 citations for overcrowding, renting rooms, sleeping in attics or basements, issued to the owners of almost 90 dwellings; 74 citations to repair or paint the exterior of homes, roofs, chimneys, driveways, garages, porches, or fences, or failure to repair and paint; 52 citations for doing home construction work without permits; 42 citations for commercial vehicles illegallt parked in residential areas; 27 citations for operating businesses in residential properties, without Certificates of Commercial Occupancy; 14 Citations for having signs without permits; 12 citations for parking vehicles on lawns; 6 or fewer citations for issues like cemented backyards, insecure or debris-filled vacant lots, ramshackle garage, refusal to allow inspector to enter, illegal dumping, illegal signs blocking a fire entrance, overflowing Dumpsters, Dumpsters without permits, selling vehicles without a license, no heat, basketball hoops in the street, no house numbers, failure to obtain limo license, operating business after legal hours, failure to obtain certificate of occupancy, sidewalk repairs, bench removal, uninsured vehicles, tent sale without license and snow removal.
I don’t know whether or not any of those violations have been corrected since last July.
Interested readers could follow up with the Department of Public Works.
