North Plainfield Police Chief William Parenti announced that the North Plainfield Police Department, in conjunction with the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office Collision Analysis Reconstruction Team, is investigating a fatal motor vehicle accident in the borough. At 4:52 am, the North Plainfield Police Department was notified of a motor vehicle accident involving a pedestrian on Route 22 between North Dr. and Watchung Ave. in North Plainfield. Responding police units found that a pedestrian, had been struck on the highway and suffered fatal injuries.
It appears that the pedestrian was traveling West along the highway and was struck by a vehicle also traveling west.
Driver involved George Gabienu, Somerville NJ, Age 38.
The North Plainfield Fire Department and JFK Paramedics responded. The New Jersey Department of Transportation also responded to divert traffic while the investigation was being conducted. Chief Parenti said the investigation is still active and on-going.
